EVENTS IN GERMANY LONDON PRESS EMPHASIS. SITUATION MOST SERIOUS SINCE 1914. London, March 12. The entire Sunday press emphasises the danger of the present situation in Europe, which is described as the most serious since 1914. The papers declare that the real mission of Mr. MacDonald and Sir John Simon to Geneva is to prevent an almost immediate conflagration. Events in Germany have developed so rapidly since Herr Hitler came into power that anxiety is expressed in several capitals lest, flushed with victory, he may determine to invade the Polish corridor. France is undisguiscdly alarmed at the manner Herr Hitler has armed Nazis, Steel Helmets and police. Due paper suggested that the position is so serious that an attempt may be made to induce Herr Hitler and Signor Mussolini to meet the Anglo-French statesmen at the borders of Italy. Austria is believed to bj on the point of uniting with Hungary for the restoration of the Hapsburgs. SPARKS FROM DANZIG. DANGER OF ANOTHER WAR. Paris, March 11. “Sparks from Danzig may easily start another war conflagration,” declares Dr. Ziehm, president of the Danzig Senate who is proceeding to Geneva in connection with the Westerplatte dispute. The Polish machineguns and a mine thrower landed in violation of international right can explode too easily. If the League fails it will be another blow from which it will be difficult to recover.”
