WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
TAKAPAU. There was a very good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Takapau Women’s Institute, held in the Public Hall supper room on Thursday afternoon, Mrs W. Jackson, the president, presiding. Mrs W. B. Hill, honorary secretary, read the fourth annual balance sheet, which was received and shorved a good credit balance. The president’s report on the year’s work and genera] activities, in which she thanked the committee and the members for their cordial co-operation and for the practical manner in which members interpreted the institute’s motto, was adopted. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded to the president and to the secretary. The following officers were elected for tile ensuing year:—President, Mrs W. Jackson; hon. secretary and treasurer, Airs W. B. White; committee, Mesdames C. Pease, D. Vesty, A. J. Campbell, E. H. Thomson, W. G. Jackson, H. Drake, A. Jackson, W. Clayton, Misses H. Thomsen, McMillan and Wooleott. The roll call was “uses of the potato.’’ The potato-growing- competition was won by Miss McMillan with 581bs. of potatoes grown from three tubers, and the second prize went to Mrs McMillan with 541bs. A rubber ink competition was won by Miss Audrey Thomsen. Mesdames A. J. Campbell and W. B. White were elected as delegates to attend the federation meeting at Orinondville. Afternoon tea was served, and a very enjoyable and profitable afternoon was concluded by the singing of the National Anthem. PUKETITIRI. The Puketitiri Women’s Institute held its usual monthly meeting on Wednesday afternoon, and at the same time the annual elections were conducted. The following committee were elected for the ensuing year:—Mrs F. Thomas (president), Mrs B. Black, Mrs F. Jensen, Mrs T. Brice, Mrs G. Holt, Mrs W. Turner, and Miss V. McKenzie. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs T. Brice and Mrs T. Simeox. Competitions for the best darned sock and the best scones were both won by Mrs S. Kauter, while the aggregate prize for points for the year was won bv Mrs G. Holt, with Mrs Hampton second. The secretary (Mrs F. Jensen) presented a very healthy balance sheet.
