Mr J. D. Ormond, of Hawke’s Bay, is visiting Wellington and is staying at tiie Hotel St. George. His Honour Mr Justice Blair left Napier by the mail train this morning for Wellington. Mrs H. Coleman, of Havelock North, left this morning on a holiday visit to Sydney. The Et. Hon. Ramsay MacDonald and Sir John Simson have left London on route to Geneva.—British Official Wireless. A tribute to the late Mr Frank Logan, who died at Napier last Wednesday evening, was paid by a large number of commercial firms yesterday, where flags were flown at half-mast. Taranaki exchanges take special note of the recent death of Mr G. C Turner, aged 78, one of the earliest settlers in the Eltham district, and a wellknown breeder of Shorthorn cattle. The appointeiiicnt of Mr J. Tringham as ranger and registrar of dogs to the Taradale Town Board was approved at the monthly meeting of the board held last evening. Their Excellencies, the GovernorGeneral and the Lady Bledisloe will leave Wellington this evening for an official visit to the South Island, which will include journeys through the fruitgrowing districts of Central Otago. Their Excellencies propose to return to Wellington on or about March 23.

Flying-Officer Gerrand, the Hawke’s Bay Aero Club’s instructor, has been promoted to the rank of flight-lieuten-ant. Ender the Air Force system of ranking, a flight-lieutenancy is the equivalent of a captaincy in the Army.-I'Tight-Lieut. Garrand leaves shortly to take part in a refresher course for pilots.

Mr G. Shirtcliffe has been appointed chairman of the advisory council of Scientific and Industrial Research. The appointment of the following members of the council for a period of two years was gazetted last evening:—Professor 11. G. Denham, Professor J. Malcolm, Messrs T, Rigg, A. M. Seaman, G. A. Pascoe. 11. Vickerman, and A. H. Cockayne.

Mr F. J. Witherow, Waipawa, has received telegraphic advice of the sudden death, at Auckland, of his brother, Mr Tom Witherow. The late Mr Witherow was born at Patangata, but took up his residence in Auckland some years ago. He leaves, besides his widow, a family of four daughters and two sons, who will have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in their sudden bereavement.

A vote of condolance with the relatives of Mr Frank Logan, who died at Napier on Wednesday evening last, was carried by members of the Taradale Town Board last evening. In moving to that effect, the chairman, Mr J. Williamson, stated: ‘‘ Mr Logan was a gentleman of a very fine type and members of this board who knew him will sincerely, regret the news of his death.’’

Consequent upon the retirement of Superintendent W. Eccles from control of the Dunedin Police District, Inspector James Mcllveney has been transferred to Dunedin as superintendent. Mr Mcllveney will be replaced at Wanganui by Sub-Inspector R. Ward, at present stationed at Wellington, who has been promoted to the rank of inspector. Inspector Ward will be replaced as chief detective at Wellington by Sub-Inspector J. Carroll, who is at present chief detective at Christchurch. 'J'he vacancy at- Christchurch will be filled by Senior-Detective W. H. Dunlop.

The death has occurred of Mr Frank Neville Heath (usually called Bill), chief engineer to the Te Awamutu Cooperative Dairy Company. After an operation for appendicitis complications set in. He leaves a widow and two young sons, who will have the sympathy of the community. Mr Heath was born in Napier 45 years aog, and was the youngest son of the late Mr and Mrs Neil Heath, who was headmaster of the Napier Boys’ High School. He entered the Te Awamutu Dairy Co-operative’s employ about three years ago from Frankton, and his excellent qualities soon won him wide esteem. He was a member of the Church of England Men’s Society and of the Anglican Church.
