BAN ON RECORDS

B CLASS RADIO STATIONS. DISCUSSION BY M.P.’s. Wellington, March 9. The difficulties confronting the B -class broadcasting stations wore discussed yesterday by representatives of those interests with members of Parliament representing Auckland and Wellington constituencies. The discussion was conducted privately, but it is understood the two questions principally dealt with we; the restrictions placed on announce ments relating to sponsored programmes, and the embargo placed on tnc use of gramophone records. Complaint was made that the Radio Board had refused to hear representations from the B stations. Finally it was agreed that members interested together with representatives of the B stations, should endeavour to arrange a conference with the Postmaster-General, Hou. A. Hamilton, and members of the Radio Board, ■with a view to arranging a satisfactory settlement. Meanwhile the B stations are perturbed at the loss of revenue they claim to be losing because of the present unsatisfactory situation. MEETING IN THE SOUTH. CLOSING DOWN ANNOUNCEMENT Dunedin, March 8. A meeting of proprietors of the South Island B class broadcasting stations was held here to-day to discuss the position that has arisen as a result of the decision of the gramophone companies to refuse permission to broadcast records. Reference was made to the arrangements recently come to with the companies under which A class stations may broadcast records, and the allegation was made that certain B class stations, sponsored by the Broadcasting Board, were also being permitted to use records. The opinion was expressed that the position of B class stations was desperate, and it was decided that there was no alternative but to close down as from March 10. An announcement to this effect was broadcast from each local B class station tonight.
