WAITANGI ENDOWMENT

UNANIMITY ON SECOND READINC PARTY LEADERS’ TRIBUTES Wellington, March 8. Moving the second reading of the Waitangi Endowment Bill in the House of Representatives to-night, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes said that Their Excellencies’ gift was greatly appreciated by the nation, which would hold it in trust for all time. The Leader of the Opposition said he was sure that there would be unanimity on this bill, and joined with the Prime Minister in expressing gratitude to Their Excellencies. In doing so he would like to suggest that this would be a very good time to recommend to both members of Parliament and the public that they might obtain a great amount of information and benefit from reading the new edition of Mr T. Lindsay Buick's book “The Treaty of Waitangi.” It was a most valuable contribution to the historical literature ot the Maoris. The bill was read the second time.
