ROWING CHAMPION’S OARS
RACE WITH UNEVEN SCULLS. The holder of (ho world’s sculling championship in 1908-9, W. Webb, recalled at the championship regatta at Wanganui a peculiar incident when Im was training for his first professional taco with Stanbury on Boxing Dav. 1906. On the morning of this contest it was pointed out that the one scull was two inches longer than the other. When Webb had chipped a piece off a blade he took a scull from another sot, thinking that his sculls were identical. However, as he had trained for ll days with Hie uneven set to his satisfaction tie started with the two different sculls Webb is engaged in boatbuilding on the side of the Wanganui course and competitors trrming on the river have round les ready i,r e and coaching of great assialtmce,
