POSTAL EMPLOYEE’S THEFT
SENTENCE OF HARD LABOUR. At the Supreme Court at Napier this morning, before His Honour Mr Justice Blair. Leslie Harold Banks, a postal employee, who pleaded guilty to the theft of £B, wag sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labour. Mr G P. Portas, who appeared on behalf of the accused, said that he had made restitution of the greater portion of the money, and in view of his contributing to the support of his widowed mother, he suggested that he be granted a term of probation. In passing sontenee. His Honour said that postal officials were entrusted to deliver all mail, and the accused, in stealing a letter and misappropriating Ihe money, had placed suspicion on all the other officials.
