FAREWELL EVENING

FUNCTION FOR MR AND MRS H. SPEJGHT. The Rev. H. Speight, Mrs Speight ami family, who leave soon to reside at Patutahi. near Gisborne, are being farewellc <1 by friends and parishioners of St Matthew’s Church on Monday next. January 23, in St. Matthew’s Hall. Mr and Mrs Speight have endeared themselves to a great number of people in Hastings and will be greatly missed. Both have spent the past years here in consistent though quiet self-sacrificing work for the public good. Mr Speight has been appointed vicar of the district tn which he is moving and he will carry with him good wishes from all here for the future. With the Sunday school children Mr Speight was ever a great favourite, for he was always kindly, sincere, and just, and these qualities are quickly recognised bv children and to them his departure will leave a great blank.
