MARINE INQUIRY

PRELIMINARIES THIS AFTERNOON, MAGISTERIAL INVESTIGATION LATER. The preliminary marine inquiry into the cause of the mishap to the launch Dori* on Wednesday night was begun at the Customs House, Port Ahuriri, at 2 o’clock this afternoon. The Collector of Customs (Mr fl. Ruffell) presided over the inquiry, which is likely to occupy some hours. This, of course, will not be the full Manne Inquiry, which will take the form of a Magisterial investigation and the time will be fixed by the Marine Department. It is likely that assessors will have to be appointed from Wellington. MINISTER AUTHORISES INQUIRY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, December 30. The Minister of Marine, the Hon. J. G. C'obbe, has authorised an inquiry before a Magistrate and two assessors yet to be appointed into the Napier harbour disaster. The inquiry will be conducted under the Shipping and Seamen Act.
