BEACH SUBURB ITEMS ANNUAL SCHOOL PICNIC. RESULTS OF SPORTS. Last Friday afternoon the Clive Grange School held their annual picnic at an ideal spot on the riverbed at the rear of Mr. McKcesick’s farm. It was a perfect day and all the children as well as adults enjoyed themselves immensely, it being one of the most enjoyable school picnics ever held at Haumoana. The Dux medal this year was awarded to Margaret Fisher, who had worked very hard during the ;year. The afternoon was spent in the running of races, after which the children were treated to afternoon tea. During the afternoon Mr. McKeesick thanked the residents of the district for their loyal support and for the numerous donations that were made. Mr. Cockerill, in a short speech, thanked the teachers and the school committee for their co-operation in making the picnic the success it was. Last Saturday afternoon saw the final meeting for the season of the sth Hastings Company of Girl Guides at Haumoana. It was a very important meeting as it took the form of a kitchen afternoon for their Captain, Miss Seeker, who is shortly to .be married. Miss Seeker was the recipient of many useful presents and in a short speech expressed her thanks and appreciation to the Guides. The Guides indulged in camp-fire sing-songs and altogether spent a most pleasant afternoon. Much amusement was caused as Miss Seeker opened her parcels. The meeting concluded with the singing of “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow. ’ ’ FRIENDLY TENNIS MATCH. A team of Pakowhai tennis players journeyed to the Haumoana courts to play the local team in a friendly match, the visitors proving victorious by a narrow margin of two games, the results being 13 —11. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the lady members of the club. A cool sea breeze made playing very enjoyable. Mr. Cockerill, on behalf of the Haumoana Tennis Club, expressed his pleasure at meeting the visitors and hoped that the two teams might meet again. Mr. R.
