WILLING TO PAY

DOMINION’S WAR DEBT. OFFER TO BRITAIN. Wellington, December 18. An offer by the New Zealand Government to reassume its liability for War Debt payments to Britain, suspended under the Hoover Moratorium, if the concession to New Zealand was granted on the assumption of a continued moratorium by the United States, is contained in a cable from the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, to the Secretary of State for the Dominions.

The Right Hon. G. W. Forbes, in a statement says that the Hoover Moratorium has now expired, and last week the British Government was obliged to make a heavy payment to the United States on account of the war debt. Although the British Government had previously signified its willingness to continue the moratorium with respect to New Zealand’s obligations, the New Zealand Government considered that it should not' accept without question this most generous offer. Mr Forbes added that he is confident that New Zealanders will, despite the difficulties confronting them, wholeheartedly approve of the Government’s action.
