OCTOBER WEATHER

ANOTHER DRY MONTH. RAINFALL BELOW AVERAGE. The monthly summary giving details of the weather in Hastings during October, and prepared for the “Tribune” by Mr H. N. Fowler, shows that the total rainfall was only .41 inch, although rain fell on eight days. The average for the month of October during the last 48 years (Napier figures) is shown as 2.29 inches, and it will be seen that last month’s fall was less than a fifth of the average. The rainfall to date for 1932 is 24.28 as against the average of 31.31 for the ten months of last year. The following are details of the rainfall during last month:—October 14th, .02; 19th, .02; 20th, .03; 21st, .01; 22nd, .13; 23rd, .12; 24th, .03; 29th, .05. The highest temperature during the month was 79 (in the screen) and the lowest minimum 37. The lowest temperature on the grass was 28 degrees, or four degrees of frost, and there was frost on three other days. The range of temperature was 20.7 degrees, and the mean temperature 56.4. The prevailing winds were north on six days, north-west on five, west on six, south-west on five, and south on seven.

Waipoapoa Station reports that last month there was a rainfall of 1.92 inches recorded there.
