HAVELOCK NORTH

NEWS FBOM THE VILLAGE. Much enthusiasm was shown in the cricket match played on the Domain on Saturday afternoon between the married and single men. The game will be continued next Saturday afternoon. The progress scores are as follows:—Married: 142 runs (J. Scott 93, C. Meads 22); Single: 51 for no Wio kets (Huff 25, Q. Liley 26). There were about 40 players on the tennis courts on Saturday afternoon, when the club held a Yankee tournament. In spite of unpleasant weather, the tournament was completed, Miss E. Treneman winning the ladies’ section and Mr. C. Joll the men’s. It was most encouraging to see the large number of new players on the courts, which augurs a really good season. A final reminder is given of the annual general meeting of the Havelock North Amateur Athletic Sports Club, to be held in the Town Board Hall at 7.30 this evening. Besides the usual business, many important matters will be discussed, so a full and representative meeting is desired. New members will bo made welcome. On Friday evening next a concert will be staged in the Village Hall under the direction of Mr. K. Theo. Starkey, in aid of the local library funds. The programme is a long and . varied one, and all who attend may be sure of a“ excellent evening’s entertainment and at the same time know that they are assisting a very worthy object.
