BUTTER MARKET
STEADIER AT LOWER PRICES. FIRMNESS IN CHEESE. There was marked weakness last week in the London butter market, but it steadied at the close at tho lower range of prices. New Zealand first grade declined by 6/-, and finest by 4/- a cwt. during the week, closing at 96/- to 106/-, compared with 94/- to 96/- for Australian. The cheese market was Arm, prices for N.Z, white showing a rise of 1/6 to 2/- a cwt. during the week. Friday’s closing quotations are reported by the London office of ’the Dairy Board as follow, those for the previous week being shown in parentheses:— BUTTER. New Zealand: Salted, 96/- to 106/(102/- to 110/-; October 28, 1931, 114/- to 120/-); unsalted, 108/- to 110/-, ex. 112/- (108/- to 112/-; October 28, 1931, 117/- to 120/-); 96/- to 106/- equals approximately 9 7-8 d f.o.b. Deliveries, New Zealand, 970 tons. In store, 3400 tons. Australian: Salted, 94/- to 96/-, ex. 97/- (97/- to 100/-); unsalted, 96/- to I<J2/- (99/- to 104/-). Deliveries, Australian, 1135 tons. In store, 925 tons. Argentine: Unsalted. 88/- to 90/-, ex. 94/- (88/- to 92/-). Danish: 105/- f.0.b., 120/- spot (90/-: 116/- to 118/-). Dtuch: Unsalted, 120/- to 122/(120/- to 122/-). Latvian: 92/- to 94/-, ex. 96/- (92/to 97/-). Siberian: 88/- to 89/- (88/- to 90/-). Lithuanian: 92/- to 94/- (92/- to 94/-). The board has also received the following advice from its agents in Canada: — Butter: New York, 20j cents; Montreal, 20} cents per lb. CHEESE. New Zealand: White, 66/- to 67/(6|d f.0.b.)
