THE ROYAL SHOW
A WONDERFUL DISPLAY ASSURED. The remarkable number of entries registered for the Ninth (N.Z.) Royal Agricultural Show, to be held at Palmerston North on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday (November 2,3, 4, and 5) makes it certain that the 1932 Royal will! be the best of its kind that has so far been held in New Zealand. That js an extraordinary achievement in face of the fact that the farming community has not yet emerged from the worldwide depression. It is, too, a striking evidence of the continued confidence of the breeders in the future of the purebred livestock industry in this Dominion. A number of the animals that will be exhibited at the Royal Show have already been seen at the provincial shows already held this season, and it is not too much to say that their quality fully merits their presentation at this important exposition. In addition to these, many of the “topnotchers” have been held in reserve for the Royal in order that they may be shown in their most perfect condition. Breeders everywhere are on tip-toe of conjecture as to the probable fate of their various candidates when they come before the Royal Show judges. It is pleasing to know that His Excellency the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe (himself a keen breeder and judge of purebred live stock) will be afforded the opportunity of viewing such a magnificent collection of New Zealand’s best in horses, cattle, sheep and pigs, when he visits Palmerston North. In addition to these main features of the Royal Show, the entertainment of the general public will be extensively catered for. Everybody dearly loves a good horse, despite the astonishing progress of the motor, and firstclass exhibitions of clever jumping, aided by expert horsemanship, will be witnessed. These ring competitions are always a popular feature at the Manawatu Shows, and on this occasion it is expected that all previous successes will be eclipsed. Encompassed with its hazards and danger, and providing many incidents of mirth-provoking comedy, the exhibitions of steer riding will cause the spectators to flock to the ringside in excited expectation. The pageant of decorated bicycles, the bicycle racing, the relay racing for schoolboys, the boxing contests and the wrestling bouts will additionally cater for all tastes, and in those respects this year’s Royal Show will provide thrills that will tong be remembered. The show will extend over four days, and every day will be filled to overflowing with instruction, amusement and excitemerfk It u an event that should not by any chance be missed.
