HAVELOCK NORTH

A BUSY EVENING MANY MEETINGS HELD. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Havelock North School Committee was held in the schoolroom last evening. Present: Messrs. S. Duke, A. Webb, H. Coombc, W. Mellor, E. F. Leicester, S. Estaugh and N. Rigby (headmaster). The headmaster’s report stated that the average attendances for the month was 209 and the roll stood at 224. The The tennis court had. been fixed up and the senior girls had started play. The visiting committee reported that the school was in good repair and that the playing area had been patched with Colfix and is now in good order. A letter was received from the Wellington School Committee’s and Educational Federation making an appeal for the formation of a National Federation of School Committees of New Zealand. The committee decided to support, the appeal and join up with any movement that would further the object. The secretary reported that the Napier Frivolity Minstrels would give a performance on November 14 in the village hall in aid. of school funds. Messrs Duke and Webb were appointed visiting committee for the ensuing month. Accounts amounting to £6 11/11 were passed for payment. SWIMMING CLUB MEETING. The annual meeting c-f the Havelock North Swimming Club was held in the Town Board Office last evening, Mr A. Christie presiding over a good attendance. The annual balance sheet and report was read and adopted, the club’s finance being in a very satisfactory state. It was decided to leave the club fees the same as last year. The usual weekly carnivals are to be held this season, the first to take ■place on November 9 and to be an open night free to all. A committee was set up to approach the Baths Committee with a view to getting additional lights installed over the baths. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr A. E. Jull, M.P.; president, Mr A. Christie, senr.; vice-piesidents, Messrs J. M. Chambers, H. E.
