AUSTRALIAN TARIFF AGREEMENT
REVISION URGED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Oct. 29. At the meeting of the council of the Wellington Importers’ Association yesterday, the president referred to the desirability of the Government ■effecting revision of the Australian tariff agreement. The matter, he said, had been brought under the notice of the Government, and representations made that action should be taken. At a later date, at an interview with the authorities, he had been assured that the Government was giving the matter serious consideration, and that it was hoped that something in the direction desirAd would be effected in the near future. Mr. Salmond also said that the Association had received an official reply from the Government regretting that in the meantime the Association’s suggestion of the Government adopting the par rate of conversion for duty purposes could not be adopted. The question, however, was not being lost sight of.
