BACHELORS’ AND SPINSTERS' BALL. A BRIGHT FUNCTION. Although the attendance at the Bachelors’ and Spinsters’ Annual Ball in the Haumoana Hall on . Thursday evening was not as large as anticipated, a very jolly time was experienced by those present. Credit is due to the joint secretaries, Miss Willis and A. Philipps, and the energetic committee, who worked untiringly to make the dance a success. The supper, which was catered for by Mrs L. Bowen, left nothing to be desired. Les Henry’s popular band of musicians supplied the excellent music. Extras were played by Mrs Cockerill, Mr Russell and Mr Kirkham. A Monte Carlo dance which proved very popular was won by Mr N. Russell and Miss McGoldrick. Some of those present weree:—Mrs Estaugh, model frock of Bordeaux satin marocain and smart lace bridge coat to tone: Mrs Ockerill, rose-pink satin; Mrs Reeves, floral georgette; Mrs Fisher, smart frock of powderblue crepe de chine with white fur trimmings; Mrs L. Wise, black taffetas with lemon bridge coat; Mrs Les Henry, red floral crepe de chine with bridge coat to tone; Miss Ives, powderblue georgette; Miss N. Wilson, green satin; Miss Willis, pink georgette with gold bridge coat; Miss Allington, lemon satin with black velvet bridge coat; Miss McArdle, pink floral ninon; Miss Partridge, dainty red lace frock; ss Venables, red crepe de chine; Miss J. Kile, pink georgette; Miss Rye, lemon taffetas; Miss Manning, black satin with pink posy; Miss J. Smith, blue crope de chine; Miss J. Calnan, red georgette; Miss Fisher, green taffetas; Miss Barlowe, blue georgette, and her sister, green crepe de chine; Miss Simmons, red lace frock. FOLK DANCING CONCLUDES. The final night for folk-dancers was held in the Haumoana Hall on Wednesday evening. There was a large crowd of dancers as well as onlookers present. The folk-dancing club showed their generosity by donating the proceeds of the evening to the Haumoana Beach Improvement Society. Some of the many dances witnessed were: Dargasan, Goddesses, Three Meet, Up Goes Ely, Lady Spellor, Black Nag, and many others, concluding with the old favourite, “Sellenger’s Round.” During the evening, Mr C. J. H. Baker, a schairman of the Folk-dancing Club, took the opportunity to thank Mrs Gatenby, who had shown her kindness by playing the music for the dances during the past season, and asked her to accept as a token of appreciation a srffnll memento from the folk-dancing enthusiasts. Mrs Gatenby suitably replied. Mr Baker, on behalf of the dancers, also thanked Misses Glenny and Seeker and Mr' Glenny for the help which they had rendered in teaching the various dances during the past season.
