THE SEASON’S LAMBS
SATISFACTORY WEIGHTS. Sufficient lambs have already been killed at Whakatu this week to enable an opinion to be formed of the probable weights and quality for this season. In making a comparison with last season, it has to be remembered that we are now dealing with a season that was easily a record for this part of Hawke’s Bay in both weight and quality of lambs. A representative of this paper has had the privilege of seeing the killing sheets of three consignments of lambs killed at Whakatu this week, which must all be classed as extremely satisfactory. A draft from a farm on the Middle road averaged 35.801b5., and two drafts from the Heretaunga Plains weigheed 34.301b5. and 32.251b5. respectively. A fat drafter stated that he considered that the fat lamb output from this district would not equal last season’s record, taking in the whole district, but a large number of farmers had equally as good lambs.
