LARGEST SHEEP
DUNTROON’S CHALLENGE TO AUSTRALIA.
Canberra, Oct. 17. Though Dunedoo, New South Wales, has claimed that it possesses the largest sheep in the Commonwealth, the Federal Capital Territory, which is one of the oldest sheep grazing districts in Australia, disputes the claim. An open challenge to the rest of the Commonwealth has been issued by Mr. C. Egglington, of Duntroon, who says that a two-year-old crossbred wether, of his, which weighs 2531 b. live weight, is the heaviest in the Commonwealth. The Dunedoo sheep weighed 2351 b. Witnesses of the weighing of the Duntroon sheep are willing to make an affidavit that the figure quoted by Mr. Egglington is correct. The average weight of three-year-old wethers weighed on Mr. Egglington’s propertv yesterday was 216 and l-31b., that of three hoggets 1481 b. and that of three crossbred ewes 19 and l-31b. The Territorv also issues an open challenge to the rest of Australia to produce sheep of larger average weights than these.
