McCorkindale was the better in the early rounds, being immediately aggressive. He steadily bombarded the Australian, whose heavy swings were easily evaded. Cook, in the fifth, shook McCorkindale, who recovered well and delivered one of hie famous right-hand hay-makers, which would have downed other heavyweights. Cook kept his feet and continued gamely until the eighth, in which one particularly savage right caught McCorkindale full on the jaw. McCorkindale then proved his superiority. In the ninth round he damaged Cook’s eye. which was streaming with blood. When the tenth began Cook, despite his handicap, fought furiously, necessitating McCorkindale’s utmost exertions to defend himself. It was a terrific encounter, which was loudly applauded.
