NAPIER HARBOUR BOARD

NOTICES OF MOTION. FOB MEETING NEXT MONDAY. Notice has been given by the chairman, Mr. Trevor M. Geddis, that he will move the two following resolutions: — “(1) That, in order to allay any element of doubt in the minds of the public as to the nature of the bottom of the Breakwater Harbour and as it is essential both as a protection to the Harbour Board and any contractor undertaking the work, a complete resurvey of the Breakwater Harbour bottom, together with borings, be carried out immediately. If this is done it will remove any ambiguity when preparing contract documents and will enable the contractor to have complete knowledge of the harbour when preparing his estimate; further,' that on the proposed site of the wharf that borings be taken to at least fifteen (15) feet below the calculated depth necessary to carry the bearing load of the piles, i.e., to ascertain that the pile is not resting on a thin film of rock, perhaps overlaying silt below.” “(2) That the Board take the necessary steps to obtain an Order-in-Coun-cil under the Harbours Act and also the consent of the Local Government Loans Board to raise and apply for purposes of urgent and necessary work at the Breakwater and Inner; Harbour the portion of the Inner Harbour loan not yet raised amounting to £47,000; further, that the Board take the necessary steps to obtain an Order-in-Council under the Harbour? Act to apply for purposes of urgent and necessary work at the Breakwater and Inner Harbour the portion of the Inner Harbour loan raised and now in the Reserve Fund amounting to £24,000.”

Mr. A. E. Jull, M.P., has given notice that he will move:— ‘‘That the Board make a further immediate effort in conjunction with the Rivers Board to secure a decision from the Government to the proposal for diversion of the Tutaekuri river without asking for the Public Works Department to carry out the work and failing such a decision by the end of this month that the Board seek to obtain the necessary authority to divert the river through the Westshore beach.”
