HASTINGS METHODIST CHURCH
QUARTERLY meeting. INVITATION TO PASTOS. There was a good attendance of members at the quarterly meeting held in the trustees’ room on Wednesday evening, when the Bev. A. H. Scrivia presided. The quarterly report and balancesheet presented by the circuit stewards, Mr F. J. Gibbs and Mr P. Loach, showed keen interest in circuit affairs and sustained effort on the part of all officers. Senior and junior church membership showed an increase, while the contribution to both home and foreign missions was in excess of last year. Tho total was over £2OO. This, added to the contributions towards the church and new buildings, funded, represented a substantial amount contributed by the members. It was decided to act aside the first Sunday in December as a Thanksgiving Day. The Sunday school report, presented by the superintendent, Mr L. A, Denton, showed the roll number to be 244— primary department 60, and band of hope 82. Miss E. Beale’s (Y.P. secretary) report showed satisfactory attendance at all classes. The interest was being maintained, in all departments. The boys’ and girls’ clubs had not met as regularly as formerly owing to the number of special functions in connection with the new church. The young peoples’ efforts to date had realised £l2O 18s Id, the cookery book sales £63, and barrow fair £3B 7s lid, while the flower show had brought in £l5. Their contributions to mission work and support of “Ruth Grant” were being maintained.
Mr F. J. Gibbs and Mr P. Loach were elected lay representatives to attend the district synod to be held in Hastings on November 16 and 17, with Mr H. B. French and Mr R. Doubleday as substitutes. Mr C. Newton and Mr Darvell were re-elected auditors for the ensuing year. An invitation to remain for a further term was extended to the pastor, the Bev. A. H. Scrivin. Wafm appreciation of the consecrated, thorough service of both Mr and Mrs Scrivin was voiced by members. The hope was expressed that they would be able to continue in their loving comradeship in this circuit, where their lives were a loving example of devoted Christian service. Mr Scrivin, in accepting the invitation (subject to the ruling of Conference), paid a tribute to the loyalty and co-operation of the officials and members during the past six months, which had been a strenuous but happy time for both him and Mrs Scrivin.
