SHEARING RATES
ADVICE TO WORKERS. NATIONAL EXECUTIVE’S CIRCULAR. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Oct. 13. The National Executive of the Nev Zealand Workers’ Union advises al workers to accept engagements at th< following terms: Shearers 20/- a hundred with rations, 25/- without; shec hands and pressers £2 10/- a week oi 1/6 an hour; all others £2 5/- a weel or 1/4 an hour; cooks for 12 men oi under £3 a week; cooks’ assistants £S 10/- . x . The general secretary explains thai these are the rates the union is prepared to accept in agreement with the sheepowners. He says that the reasonableness of them is recognised bj quite 75 per cent, of the sheepowneri who have already expressed willingness to pay nothing less than £1 a hundrec for shearing. The rates proposed by the sheep owners are: 18/- a hundred; pressers £2 a week or 1/2 an hour; all others £1 15/- a week or 1/- an hour; cooks £2 10/-. cooks’ assistants £2.
