NAPIER MAGISTRATE’S COURT
(Before Mr. J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M.). CASES HEARD TO-DAY. William .George McEwan, of Port Ahuriri, was convicted and fined £l, with costs 10/-, for driving a car without being the holder of a driver's license. A fine of £2, with costs 10/-, was imposed upon Alvin Reginald James Rich, who was convicted on a similar charge.—The traffic inspector, Mr. A. M. Olliver, stated that the defendant had been refused a license until he had obtained glasses, his eyesight not being of the required standard. He had driven his service car without having obtained his glasses. Arthur Cyril Gannaway was fined 10/-, with costs 10/-, for driving a vehicle without having first obtained a heavy traffic license. Edward Joseph Foran and James Matthew Olsen, who were convicted on charges of driving heavy motor vehicles at a speed exceeding the maximum speed provided by law, were fined £l, with costs 10/-. For allowing a chimney at his Dickens street premises to become foul, Andrew Paxie was convicted and fined 5/-, with costs 10/-. A fine of £l, with costs 10/-, was imposed upon Alexander Frederick Conrad, who was convicted on a charge of failing to pay instalments of the unemployment levy. For breaches of maintenance orders, Newton Francis Mitchell and Thomas Wall were convicted and sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, the warrants to be suspended so long as the defendants pay current maintenance and 1/- per week off arrears.
