STORTFORD LODGE SALE
RECORD FAT CATTLE ENTRY.
FAR EXCEEDED MARKET REQUIREMENTS.
The previous record of 500 fa* cattle at Stortford Lodge sale was easily beaten by the entry of 704 cattle at to-day’s sale.
The offering included a large number of pens of extra well-finished cattle. A draft of prime Hereford bullocks from Craggy Range Station realised up to £6 4;-. A pen of extra well-finished Hereford bullocks, sold on account of Mr John Kelly, Moteo, ranged in price up to £6 7/-. A draft of prime P.A. cross bullocks, on account of Messrs Kelly Bros., Moteo, realised up tv £6 A consignment of Shorthorn cows and heifers sold on account of Mr Frank Tiffen, Elmshill, Otane, ranged in price up to £4 15/6. This draft was a par. ticularly well-finished line. Several pens of prime speyed P.A. cross cows and heifers offered on account of Drumpeel Station realised up to £4. A large draft of heavy Hereford cross cows and heifers from Waipoapoa and Te Apiti Stations sold up to £3 19/-. A pen of medium weight Hereford bullocks, sold on account of Mr D. N. Douglas, realised £5 15/-, A pen of light weight P.A. steers sold on Greenhill Station realised £5 10/-. A draft of light weight steers, sold on account of Mr J. Lyons, Glenalvon, realised £4 13/6. The yarding to-day far exceeded market requirements, more especially in the fat cow and heifer entry, the drop in cow and heifer beef being equal to 20/-. and in some cases, 30/- per head. Heavy bullocks were also down 20/-. but lighter weights were much on a par with recent sales. The sale of fat cattle was continued until 2 o’eloek, when the order of the sale was altered to allow an entry of 1000 store cattle to be yarded. Fat sheep and dairy stock are being offered after the fat cattle, when it is anticipated ' that the balance of the store cattle will be yarded ready for Siction. A very large yarding is entered in the dairy section, much more interest being displayed by buyers in this section of the sale judging by the number of buyers inspecting the entry. There was also a large entry of sheep, 3,000, in the fat section, mainly composed of shorn fat ewes. The top price paid for ox beef up to the time fve went to press was £C 12/6, compared with £8 paid last week. The best price paid for heifers was £4 15/-, compared with £6 last week. The best price for cow beef was £4 5/-, compared with last week’s of £5 •/-. Buyers will be apt to lose interest in ' the sale of store cattle, owing to the late hour when the sale will be completed;
