SHERENDEN

SCHOOL BALL. ANOTHER GREAT SUCCESS. The annual fancy dress ball of the Sherenden School once again proved to be an outstanding success not only for the children who danced and played games till 9.30, but also for the adults who held the floor for the remainder of the evening. The hall was attractively decorated with greenery and flowering shrubs while the balloons supplied to the children at supper-time lent added colour to the scene. A waltzing competition was won by Miss King and Mr Boese, while the cake went to Mrs Wills. Apart from the numerous duties oi the secretary, Mr D. Epplett, most work fell on the shoulders of the ladies’ committee (Mesdames Epplett, MoAulay, Matthews, and Wills) who were responsible for the excellent supper arrangements. Messrs Wills and Marchant were M.C.’s while the music provided by Walden’s orchestra was all that could be desired. The committee thanks all who assisted in any way, and in particular Mrs Kemball and other donors of the prizes, Mrs Connor (cake for raffle), de Pehchet McLeod and Heretaunga Butter Factory (donations), Miss Bayley and Sir A. Russell (judges). The fancy dresses, judged by Miss N. Bayley and Sir Andrew Russell, were won by the following:—Best fancy dress (girls), Isa Whyte; best fancy dress (boys), Alex Whyte; most original (girls), Eileen Nelson; most original (boys), Bob Epplett; specials: Rae Treseder and Pam and June Wills.
