LOVELY TULIPS

PAKOWHAI ROAD DISPLAY. Many people who have cars or who like a good walk are wending their way to Pakowhai road this week to see a glorious display of tulips which grow near the former road not far from the end of Frederick street. The tulips are grouped in long beds of matched colour and almost dazzle the eyes by their vivid shades glowing in the sun. There are orange, scarlet, and- mixed varieties in one group, and then massed pink, deeper pink, prune, huge double cerise, “Pride of Haarlem,” and pinks of a soft, deep tone which are indeed beautiful, called “Melba.” Many other kinds are there, also white tinted with pink, yellow, and variegated blooms.

Seldom have such fine tulips been seen in this district, and flower lovers will be well repaid if they can pass along that road during the next day or so before the colours dim.
