A boy named Fredicksou, aged between five and six years, was knocked down in Carnell street, Napier, to-day by a motor lorry driven by Bright Ernest Williams, of Puketapu. It appears that the boy ran out suddenly on to the road, and was struck by the front part of the lorry, which passed over him. Fortunately he avoided the wheels, and immediately got up unassisted, having sustained only a few minor abrasions Edward James Leo Cleary, formerly railway stationmaster at Allanton, was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment for the theft of 20 bottles of stout, the property of the Government. The police stated that the stout was consigned from Dunedin to Owaka and placed in the guard’s van After the train left Milton the guard noticed that a package was missing. The accused, who was on leave, travelled part of the way in the guard’s van. A search was made of the accused’s house and three of the missing bottles were found. The accused was fond of drink.—Press Assn.
