BRITISH TREASURY RETURNS
REDUCTION IN DEFICIT. BIG INCREASE IN CUSTOMS AND EXCISE DUTIES. (British Official Wireless.) (Received 1, 12.30 p.m.) Bagby, August 31. The Treasury returns, for the past week showed that the total ordinary expenditure for the financial year up to date amounts to £302,886,859, and the ordinary revenue to £225,630,621, a deficit of £77,256,248 compared with a deficit one year ago of £82,146,423. The returns show that the receipts from customs and excise duties to date yielded £116,346,000, being m increase on the previous year of £18,034,000.
