ECONOMICS IN SCHOOLS
PROVISION IN AUSTRALIA. VALUE OF THE INSTRUCTION. “While there is practically no teaching of economics in New Zealand secondary schools, in New South Wales and some of the other Australian States definite courses are provided, with spe-cially-written text books,” said Dr. E. P. Neale, secretary of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, who returned to Auckland on Tuesday. 'Dr. Neale, rfho read a paper before the economics and statistical section of the Association for the Advancement of Science, said one of the most interesting papers read at the meeting was on the subject of teaching economics in schools. The general feeling, was that the subject was a suitable one to be included at least as an optional one in university entrance examinations, and that, as only a proportion of secondary school students passed on to tho university, any secondary school course in economies should bo complete in itself.
