MAORI CONCERT

SUNDAY NIGHT’S SUCCESS. £2O FOR THE UNEMPLOYED. The concert staged by Mr London Kelly in aid of the unemployed Maoris was an outstanding success. The programme would have been unique had it not been for the unforeseen happening of an illness in one family which was the cause of six brothers, master musicians, being unable to attend at the last moment Mr Kelly was unable to replace these at such short notice. The choir which took first place in the New Zealand contest when singing ‘‘God Moves in a Mysterious Way,” showed their worth when giving that and other similar numbers. Great appreciation was shown throughout the performance. The donations amounted to above £2O.

Mr C. C. Adams was stage manager. The programme was as follows:— Moteo Dance Orchestra, “Iron Division,” “Old Comrades”; Mr Reuben Paraki (song), “When the Blue of the Night Meets the Gold of the Day”; Bridge Pah boys (male quartette), “Teach Me to Pray”; choir (m Maori), “The Song of the Redeemer”; ladies’ chorus, “Silent Night”; ladies’ quartette, “Love’s Old Sweet Song”; Moteo Orchestra, “Hurd Hearted Hannah,” “E Pari Ra” : Adelaide Kamau (recitation), “A Night With a Wolf”; Eunice Mataira (song), “Romance”; choir, “God Moves in a Mysterious Way”; girls’ trio, “Wabash Moon”; male quartette, Omahu boys, “Carolina Sweetheart”; men’s chorus, “Friend o’ Mine,” “Twiddly Winkie Woo”; harmonising number, Moteo Orchestra, “Little Boy of Mine,” “Aloha Oe”; Eunice Mataira (song), “Rio Rita,” with guitar accompaniment.
