PRESSING FOR HASTINGS’ RIGHTS EMERGENCY DEPUTATION PROCEEDING TO WELLINGTON. His Worship the Mayor of Hastings, Mr G. F. Roach, after conferring with the Hastings committee of the l\apier Harbour Board, found that it was necessary to get as many members ot the Citizens’ Committee together to discuss the advisability of immediately sending a deputation to Wellington to confer with the Minister ol Health, Hon J. A. Young, and the DirectorGeueral ot Health (Dr. Watt), to see it some duality could not be reached with regard to the Hastings Hospital question. In spite of the very short notice a very large and representative gathering met His Worship at the Borough Council Chambers this morning, and His Worship concisely outlined his reasons lor calling them together on such a busy morning.

Mr Ceci) Duff, chairman of the Hastings committee of the Napier Hospital Board, then outlined the present position, covering in his address the main events in the work of his committee and the difficulties that had to be contended with. After a general discussion the following resolutions were unanimously carried: — (1) That a deputation immediately proceed to Wellington to interview the Minister of Health and the Director-General with regard to the provision of hospital accommodation and particularly to discuss with them the question of the cost of maintenance. (2) That the deputation be Mi H. M. Campbell, M.P., Mrs T. H. Lowry, the chairman of the Hospital Board (Mr C. O. Morse), the secretary of the Hospital Board (Air E. T. Rees), His Worship the Mayor of Hastings (Mr G. F. Roach), and Messrs G. A. Maddison, F. B. Logan, Dr. Wilson, Cecil Duff, H. V. Hoad ley, S. J. McKee, and C. Lassen.

Mr Hoadley reported that he had interviewed Mr Morse yesterday and informed him of the impending deputation. He (Mr Morse) said that he and the secretary, Mr Rees, would be pleased to accompany the deputation to Wellington, and give them every assistance possible. Before the meeting dispersed, on the motion of Mr H. R. French, a hearty vote of thanks to the Hastings committee of the Hospital Board, for the untiring work they had done in the interests of the extension of Ihe Hastings Hospital, was carried by acclamation. It was subsequently arranged that the deputation should leave Hastings on Monday afternoon, and meet the Minister and Director-General on Tuesday, arrangements having been made by the Minister to receive the Hastings deputation on that date.
