HEREWORTH v. CROYDON. HAVELOCK SCHOLARS WIN. The annual match between Hereworth Boys’ School (Havelock N.) and Croydon Boys’ School (Wellington) was played this afternoon on the Hereworth grounds. There was a large attendance of parents and froends of both schools and a very exciting game was witnessed.

The teams lined out as follows:— Croydon .’—Backs: W. Lewis (fullback), G. Clirnie, J. Gibbons, R. Keinball, E. Kain, J. Bright, E. Evans. Forwards: H. Morrison (capt.- P. Jacobson, T. Foster-Pratt, T. Kent, A. Spiers, P. Haywood, P. Lewis and R. Whatley. Hereworth:—Backs: E. H. Smith, R. Logan, H. M. Swiuburn (capt.-, R. Tutaki, D. Barker. M. Richardson, J. G. Dasent. Forwards: J. S. Bidwell, J. Mackie, H R. Wilson, R. B. Kells, C. K. Mackay. H. Earl, W. E. Nilsson, C. N. D. Taylor The game in the first spell consisted principally of forward play; Croydon were a little superior in the line-outs, in spite of Hereworth’s biggei forwards, while the latter’s weight gave them an advantage in the scrums. Taylor (Herewortrh) was the most bril liant forward on the field, and should do well later Morrison was Croydon’s outstanding packman In the' early stages Croydon’s three-quartei line played well, but they fell off badly as the game advanced, taking most of their passes standing still. Swinburn and Tutaki were the most outstanding back . they being responsible for most of H i eworth’s scores. Dasant, at half, was safe and played well. In the first half Croydon made two determined attacks, but Hereworth’s better defence defeated them. The half-time bell went with Hereworth on the attack and before the ball went out of play Logan scored for Hereworth, Wilson converting. The score then was

yrds ruu down the line, was able to score about a yard inside the line. The kick tailed. After much up and down play, Swinburn secured another runaway amt crossed between the posta. Croydon attacked the kick before it left the ground, (,'roydon then made a brilliant effort which resulted in Morrison scoring their first try, Kemball converting Hereworth retaliated immediately, Tutaki running down the line and passing out to Barker to score well out. Wilson failed with his kick. The final liell went with Croydon making a last minute attack and the score reading: Hereworth 22 Croydon 5 Mr J. Geenty refereed.
