It did not take long for the adoption of the British Rugby custom of noreplacement of injured players to provide a specific case for criticism in Sydney club Rugby. When Manly, one of the leading two teams, met Eastern Suburbs, which team is three places farther away on the competition ladder, it scored 10 points while it had a full team. But Manly then lost three of its players. As it happened, it managed to hold its own, to a final score of 15 to live. But Manley had reason to be thankful that Eastern Suburbs played poorly, although East’s had plenty of ball.
