PRIME MINSTER AND SON

HISTORIC FOGTBALL MATCH. For the first time in the history of Australian football a Prime Minister was a spectator- at a football match ui which his son ws engaged recently. State Premiers have on occasions been eye-witnesses of tho athletic prowess of their sons, but not so with Prime Ministers, who along tho illustrious line from Barton’s time to the present have been unable to give their families that paternal patronage which they would wish. Our present Prime Minister is the exception. His son, Desmond, is enjoying the school vacation at Canberra. On his arrival there ) he wasted no time in getting into touch with football administrators.

Arrangements were made for him to have a run at Manuka Oval, and he was invited to play with the Ainslie Juniors. His dad had only arrived in Canberra from the momentous conference in Sydney, but he was rushed off to see Lyons junior. The lad’s team won, and he played no small part in the success. Prime Minister Lyons was prominently associated with the administrative side of football in Northern Tasmania some years ago.
