PREPARATION FOR SESSION

CABINET’S WORK WELL FORWARD. THE PROBABLE PROGRAMME. Wellington, July 28. Seen to-day, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes stated that Cabinet’s work would be well forward for the commencement of next session of Parliament, which will probably open about the middle of September. Departments of State have been requested to have their reports ready for presentation when Parliament opened, and he hoped that the House would get down to consideration of the Estimates without loss of time, clearing a good deal of the formal business out of the way before the return to New Zealand of the Ottawa delegation

With regard to measures, he said there might be some arising out of the report of the National Expenditure Commission and there might be bills bearing on the decisions at Ottawa. He did not anticipate that there would be a great deal of legislation on other matters, but he indicated that the longdelayed consolidation of the Companies Act and its amendments might be attempted, though he was not aware of how far the preparation of the bill had proceeded.
