Tonga and Fiji’s Bananas. At a meeting of banana shippers and producers at Suva, Mr. Barnes, Director of Agriculture, announced that the export of bananas to New Zealand would be restricted to 12,000 cases monthly from Tonga and Fiji, the latter’s proportion being 8000 cases. Shippers vigorously protested. All Fiji bananas will be consigned to Auckland, unless a special license is obtained from the Governor, southern ports being supplied from Samoa and Tonga.
China and the Soviet. Official advices confirm that negotiations are proceeding for a Russo-Chin-ese non-aggression pact, which it is believe! will inelude an agreement for non-recognition of the Manchurian State, while Moscow also demands the condition that China will cease endeavours to drive out Communists.
