BOXING
“"ALL-NOVICE TOURNEY SPLENDID NIGHT’S ENTERTAINMENT NEARLY 30 BOUTS STAGED A rare night’s entertainment was provided by the Hawke’s Bay Boxing Association at Hastings last evening when there was a big crowd assembled in the Drill HaU for the novice tournament. Nearly 30 bouts were staged and each and every one furnished thrills.
As was only to be expected little science was displayed by the lads, who, however, made amends for their lack In this respect by giving of their best as “scrappers.” There was no lack of competition in any of the divisions and some great “milling” was provided, the spectators being roused to great heights of enthusiasm and excitement. There was not one dull bout in the whole programme, which lasted over three hours, though such was the enjoyable fare provided that few spectators took note of the passing of the time.
The arrangements were most efficiently carried out in every respect and reflect much credit on the officials.
