TARADALE TOPICS

LIBRARY COMMITTEE From Our Own Correspondent. The Taradale public library management committee met on Thursday night Mr C. H Williams presiding. Other members present were Messrs W. Jarvis, O. Anderson, T. MacDonald, J. Williamson (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Hindman and Pollock. The secretary reported that, in response to a special appeal, 68 books had been handed in. These had been catalogued by Mrs R. J. Campbell, Miss Martin and himself. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to all donors of books; to Mr G. Ward for valuable assistance in connection with the appeal; and to the members of the committee who had catalogued them. It was decided to re-arrange the books on the shelves to make room for the new ones. An account for £4 was passed for payment.

A meeting convened yesterday afternoon for the purpose of finalising arrangements for the ball to be held on the night following the opening of the new town hall was held in the Bowling Chib pavilion. Mrs R. D. Kelly presided over a large attendance of ladies and it was decided to hold the adult ball on Friday July 29, old time dancing to hold sway. The children's baH is to be held on tho night following and judging by the enthusiasm shown, the opening ceremonies should be very successful. On Thursday afternoon the Taradale A grade Rugby team, which was previously leading in the primary schools’ competition, suffered defeat at the hands of the Nelson Park boys, in Napier, by 1-5 points to 5. Nelson Park had the benefit of a very strong wind in the first spell and profited by their opportunities. The A grade competition has reached an interesting stage, with three teams —Nelson Park, Taradale and Central —equal at the end of the secoijd round. Another round will now have to be played between the three schools.
