THEATRICAL PRODUCER’S WORK

WHAT MISS KIORI KING ACHIEVES IN CHRISTCHURCH. It is specially interesting to us, now that there are so many different dramatic clubs in Hawke’s Bay, to hear what Miss Kiori King, of Hastings, does, as producer for the Canterbury Repertory Society in Christchurch. Miss King is at home now having a well earned vacation and was present at the recent production of “This Woman Business” by the Little Theatre Society, here. Miss King gives high praise both to Mr. Leon Fail, the producer, and to the players for the performance which she said was very good indeed.

In Christchurch there are, during each year, four sessions of eight weeks. Miss King, as producer, has to arrange for two productions each session, meaning eight performances every year. Already this year that society has given Bernard Shaw’s “Pygmalion,” which was produced in March, also Ibsen’s “Doll’s House,” which was also very successful, the costumes being of the year 1885. In August and September the play by Barrie, "What Every Woman Wants,” and the Greek play, “Iphigenia,” will be given, so that with many smaller productions it will be seen that Miss King leads a most responsible and busy life with her interesting work. ( Miss King has met many old friends during her short stay at home, and next week will be the guest of the Hastings Women’s Club. On Wednesday and Thursday last Miss King invited a few friends to her aunt’s (Miss Fulton’s) home in Havelock North for an informal afternoon tea. The room was prettily arranged with vases of daphne, spring bulbs, and winter-sweet, which were all very pretty and fragrant. Those who were there on Wednesday were Miss Fulton, Miss Hodge, Mrs. J. Williams, Mrs. H. Sanders, Miss Lowry, Miss Burbury, Miss Ruth Nelson, Mrs. Greenwood, and on Thursday Mrs. K. E. Mac Lean, Mrs. V. Thompson, Mrs. Lowry North and Miss Felkin. Everyone was pleased to see Miss King again and to hear of her most interesting work in the south.
