The Lord Mayor of Sydney has convened a conference of the Employers’ Federation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber of Manufacturers and retail traders to initiate a “More Jobs” campaign, the conditions for which, he is of opinion, are psychologically right. The objective is to induce every employer to increase his staff and every householder is asked to give odd jobs and thus get men and women off the dole. PAPER INDUSTRY. The House of Assembly read the second time the Wood Pulp and Paper Industry Bill, which grants concessions to a private company of over 182,000 acres of land in Florentine Valley for the purpose of the manufacture of wood pulp. The paper company has undertaken ■ t.o produce 90.000 tons of newsprint a year. The Bill was referred to a select committee, whose report is expected next week. BIGAMY CHARGE (Received 16, 9.35 a.m.) Melbourne, June 16. A charge of bigamy had been preferred against Henry Russell, aged 24, the husband of Ivy Russell, aged 27, whose body and those of her two children were found at the Sunshine swimming pool. The police believe that in a fit of despair Mrs. Russell wheeled the perambulator containing the children into the water and then jumped in after them.
