STORTFORD LODGE SALE LARGE YARDING OF BEEF. KEEN DEMAND FOR HEIFERS. A very heavy yarding of beef cattle was penned at Stortford Lodge to-day, the total onounting to 40S head. The proportion oi young lightly finished steers was much larger than usual. The favourable autumn has enabled gi asters to offer their stock a year younger than the usual custom. Evidently the recent severe frosts have hi en responsible tor vendors hurrying them on to the market. A large number of heifers was included in to-day's yarding, competition tor this class being keener than for either ox or cow beef. A further draft of extra prime heifers was sold on ac.Muut of Mr N. Stewart, Haumoana, -id from £4 5/- to £4 6/6. Mr T. Nicholl. of Taihape, sold a draft ol aged bullocks, which had been trucked over, the heaviest cattle making up to £6 10/ —the best price for the sale. Au extra prime pen of shorthorn heifers was sold on account Mr J. McCartin, Otane, and realised £4 10/-. A draft of prime P.A. cross heifers was sold on account of Mr A. A. Small, and realised up to £4 7/-. Drafts of bullocks were sold on account of Tauroa and Penlee Stations, and Mr Setter, Otane. A draft of forty Hereford heifers was sold on account Mr Franklyn, Tikokino. The price for prime ox beef realised up to 16/-, and prime heifer realised much the same price. A large proportion of the cow beef was unfinished and was sold at under 10/- per hundred. Details; — FAT CATTLE. Bullocks: Prime heavy £5 15/- to £6 10/-, prime light £4 10/- to £5 10/unfintshed £2 10/- to £3 15/-.

In. this section 200 head were yarded, the main offering being a large draft of breeding cows from Wairoa. Sixty P.A. cows, mostly 4-year-old, Lc. to PA, sold at £2 11/-; 26 empty Hereford epws, good frames and condition, 32/-; 25 P.A. and Hereford cross «bws, i.e. to P.A., £2; 22 P.A. cows, mostly 4-year-old, i.c. to P.A., £2 2/BTOBE AND FAT SHEEP. offering in the store sheep Bfction was the smallest for this season, being under 4000. There was a large yarding of 2300 sheep in the fat sheep section.
