ANNUAL MEETING. The 41st annual meeting of the shareholders of Williams and Kettle, Ltd., was held in the company’s registered'offices, Browning street vester day Mr N. Kettle presiding. Mitford The annual report was as follows:— “The directors submit herewith the annual balance-sheet and profit and loss account for the year ended March 31, 1932, duly audited, and have to report to the shareholders that during the past year Hawke’s Bay and Poverty Bay suffered a continuance of the slump in the values of wool and stock, making trading conditions very difficult, and adversely affecting the earnings of the company. After providing for management expenses, bad and doubtful debts, depreciation etc and taking into account the balance of £3,634 12s 9d brought forward from last year, there remains a credit balance of £2,607 12s lOd, which the directors recommend be carried forward.

“Since pur last report our office premises in Napier and wool store at Port Ahuriri, which were destroyed as a result of the earthquake, have been reouilt, the latter providing facilities and advantages second to none in the Dominion for the dealing with and displaying of wool. “We have to record with regret the loss sustained through the death of Mr C. Deane and Miss Neill, of our head office staff; Mr E Bowen, of our Hast ings branch, and Mr A. M. Snelling, of our Waipukurau stock department, all valued officers of the company. “Mr F. v Kettle has been appointed a director of the company in place of Mr B. Chambers, deceased. In accordance with the articles of association, three directors, Messrs. N. Kettle, F. L. Gordon and E. G. Williams, retire by rotation, but being eligible offer themselves for re-election. The auditors, Messrs. Robert Dobson and Co., retire, but being eligible also offer themselves for re-election.”

On the motion of Mr H. M. Campbell, M.P.. seconded by Mr J. T. Fenwick, the report and balance sheet were adopted, and the retiring directors, Messrs N. Kettle, F. L. Gordon and E. Gordon Williams, were re-elected, as also were the retiring auditors, Messrs Robert Dobson and Co.

The appointment of Mr F. v. Kettle to the directorate was confirmed.

A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the directors, managing director and staff for the excellent way in which the business of the company had been conducted during the past year, on the motion of Mr W. N. J. Mackay, seconded by Mr D. D. Sweetapplc.
