FONJOLA BREAKS A LEG. MR OSWALD NELSON'S LOSS. This morning, in a schooling lesson with Princess Elizabeth, Ponjola fell at the first fence of the double the second’ time round and broke his hind leg above the hock, and had to bo destroyed. This is most unfortunate for Mr Oswald Nelson, as the Taunaha —Miss Millicent gelding was an exceptionally fin* steeplechaser, and many predicted him to win the Wellington or Grand National Steeplechases. Mr Nelson purchased him some three years ago, and the first season he did remarkably well, and won three Hunt Club Cups. The next season he was brought out in open company, and in his first attempt won the Hawora Steeplechase from a good field. The following week he won tho Wanganui Steeplechase, and later the Hawke’s Bay Steeplechase. In the Napier Park 'chase ha unfortunately went wrong, and after a good spell was brought in recently, and in recent essays at Hastings showed nil his old-time dash. Tn the first round of this morning’s work he ont.inmped Princess Elizabeth, but nt tho sod wall tho second time it could be soon that nil was not well with him. r.nd perhaps his old trouble had come back.
