STORTFORD LODGE SALE SMALLER YARDING! DEMAND FOR PRIME HEIFERS A smaller yarding of beef at Stort* ford Lodge sale to-iay was responsible for much better competition for prime fat heifers, although ox beef did not participate in the improved demand. A draft of thirty-five prime bullocks was offered on account of Te Manuriri Station, which did not meet with competition which such good cattle merited. Three extra prime bullocks from the draft realised £6 10/-, being the top price for the sale. An extra prime draft of twelve heifers sold on account Mr. H. N. Stewart realised from £4 10/- to £4 17/6. This line was extra quality, and made a price equal to ox beef. Owing to the number of fat cattle killed for export during recent weeks, it can confidently be predicted that the market will show a consistent improvement as the winter advances. Several pens of choice vealers were included in the entry, an extra heavy draft of P.A. vealers being passed at 31/-. Prime ox beef and extra prime heifer realised 16/- per lOOlbs. Cow beef was firmer in price, tho improvemetu on recent sales being equal to 2/- per lOOlbs. FAT CATTLE.
