MR LOWRY’S ENGAGEMENT. INTEREST IN ENGLAND. London, April 26. Most of tho London and provincial papers refer with interest to the announcement of tho engagement of Mr T. C. Lowry, the New Zealand cricket captain, to Miss Margot Russell. One of tho commentators says that Mr Lowry has countless friends in tho Mother Country, and goes on to remark; “Apart from all the friends he has made on the cricket field, no one who met him privately could fail to be impressed and attracted by him. At Cambridge he and his two brothers, Jim and Ralph, all at Jesus College, were the most familiar figures in tho town. All were unusually strong, and all got Blues. Ralph was in the Rugby team, Jim captained the lawn teuuis side, and Tom the cricket.

“Actually ( they were experts at most games, for Tom was a fine forward at Rugby, a good lawn tenuis player with a tremendous service, and a centre-half for his college at hockey. My shins still bear scars to prove his energy in this position during an inter-college match. Cold weather seemed to mean nothing to him for, without hat, overcoat, or gloves, he would frequently drive his battered old open motor-car when snow was lying on the ground. He had a great knack for spotting winners, and his was a well-known figure on the racecourse. I remember one lay ho won £BO. Unfortunately the bookie welshed.”
