PARTIES FOR A BRIDE

A SURPRISE PARTY. On Monday evening a surprise party, organised by some of Miss Lowe's friends, was taken to Mr and Mrs Lowe’s home, in Twyford, in honour of tho approaching marriage of Miss Dulcie Lowe, each guest bringing a tea cl'oth with her as a gift. Dancing and competitions in the drawing-room made the time pass very quickly, music for the dancing being played by Miss Lowe, Mrs C. Torr, Mrs H. Kitt, Miss Dalton, and Miss Matthews. A very dainty supper was handed round, and after Miss Lowe had opened her many attractive presents she thanked the assembled guests. “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow” and “Auld Lang Sync” concluded the successful party Mr and Mrs Lowe welcomed the guests, the latter wearing a becoming dress of black figured marocain. Miss Dulcie Lowe wore a pretty frock of lemon net, the corsage closely moulded, with a spray of red roses at the waist, and little frills forming the flared skirt; Miss M. Dalton was in a very effective frock of pink floral taffetas; Miss M. Marshall, wine marocain; Miss N. Marshall, green georgette; Mrs E. Brown, white satin; Mrs C. Torr, white satin; Miss J. Munro, blue organdie; Miss M. Budd, green organdie; Miss M. Burton, floral ninon; Mrs H. Kitt, black satin and lace draperies; Miss P. Jarvis, green panne velvet; Miss N. Hildreth, floral bridge coat and pretty pink frock; Miss V. Gloyn, pink satin frock; Miss M. Matthews, sapphire blue satin; Miss J. Holland; Messrs E. Wigg, Hildreth (2), Kitt, Marshall, Brown, Thompson, Reid, Jarvis (2), S. Craven, B. McNab, R. Arnott, and others. GIFT EVENING.

Miss Lowe was again the guest of honour at a gift party and dance given for her by Mrs S. Jarvis and Mis E. Brown on Wednesday last, at Mrs Jarvis’s home in Twyford. The drawing-room was artistically decorated for the occasion with roses, chrysanthemums, and ferns. Many entertaining competitions were enjoyed, especially when everyone had to make themselves fancy dresses out of newspaper. Charades, and excellent dance music provided by a guest added to the pleasure of the guests, and also songs given by Mr P. Williams (Dannevirke).

A delicious savoury supper was much appreciated and later Miss Lowe opened a large pile of parcels which contained many very useful and attractive presents from her friends. Mrs Jarvis wore a pretty mode) frock of beige georgette and lace, and Mrs Brown wore a smart black figured taffetas dress.

Miss D. Lowe was in lemon net with a green panne velvet bridge coat; Miss R. Jarvis wore a green satin frock with a green chiffon velvet bridge coat. “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow” and “Auld Lang Syne” were sung before the guests left for home after a most delightful evening.
