KERERU

POPORANGI RIFLE CLUB. PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. A large gathering of Kereru residents assembled in the hall on Saturday afternoon to witness the presentation of Poporangi Defence Rifle Club trophies. The president, Mr R. P. Kay, in addressing the gathering, stated that the club had had a very successful season, due largely to the staunch support of Mr John Anderson and the Misses Anderson of Poporangi Station. The very fine display of handsome trophies was an indication of the club's increasing strength and of the keen interest taken in its activities. Rifleman Bruce Douglas by winning the Championship Cup the second year in succession proved himself to be the club’s premier marksman. Rflm. K. Tilson and D. Kingston, both first year shots, distinguished themselves by winning the intermediate and junior championships respectively. The following trophies were presented by Miss Anderson:— B. T. Anderson Memordial Champion’hip Cup and Miniature, B. Douglas; runner-up trophy, W. A. Whyte; Intermediate championship, Miss B. Anderson's trophy, K. Mr Kay, on behalf of the members of the club, presented Mr Douglas, who is about to leave the district, with a travelling rug as a token of the esteem in which he is held by fellow members. Mr Douglas has been a member of the club sinceits inception three years ago and, with his valuable experience gained in other clubs, has always been of the greatest assistance to the less experienced members. It will be regretted by everyone associated with the chib if he is not there to defend the title next season. Mr Douglas expressed his appreciation and wished the club continued success.
