Great Britain and Egypt. The Egyptian Government has intimated its readiness to negotiate a new Anglo-Egyptian treaty when Britain desires. Harry Lauder (“wull he no' come back again?”) is a devout worshipper at the shrine of My Lady Nicotine, and has quite a collection of pipes whieh havo been presented to him while touring the world. The great little comedian likes a choice cigar occasionally, hut prefers a pipe for what he calls “Knock aboot smoking, ye ken.” His favourite is a clay, fashioned into the semblance of a thistle, handsomely mounted and beautifully coloured. As for tobacco, Sir Harry eschews brands which (to quote him again) are “strong as dynamite, and black wi ’nicotine.” When he farewelled New Zealand a year or two ago ho sampled our wellknown toasted tobaccos, and keenly appreciated the fact that, unlike some of those foreign brands, they are comparatively free from nicotine, and may be smoked, pipeful after pipeful, without giving you a sore tongue or harming you in any wav whatever.
